Pianists Domonique Launey and Stephen Field return to Beckwith, performing compositions for solo and four hands. 

About the Artists
Stephen Field is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and of the University of Memphis, where he has served as adjunct faculty. Field has performed with the Memphis Symphony, Oleander Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Symphony, the Connecticut Chamber Orchestra, Germantown Symphony,  Southern Comfort Jazz Ensemble, Northeast Arkansas Symphony, Memphis Jazz Orchestra, The Rhythm University Orchestra and the Ars Nova Orchestra.  He has worked with conductors Mitch Miller, Skitch Henderson, Paul Phillips, Alan Balter and Sexton Ehrling among others.  Field has also played the American premiere of Pange Lingua Variations for Dave Brubeck.  He is widely sought after as soloist, accompanist, and chamber music partner. He was a founding member of the Memphis-based chamber group, The Idlewild Quintet, with whom he performed frequently around the Mid-South.  He is currently a member of the Caretta Quartet in Wilmington, North Carolina. Field has performed recitals at the Yale Center for British Art, The Southport Concert Series, The Westport Library Concert Series and The Bruce Museum Concert Series in Connecticut among others.  He has coached, accompanied and conducted opera performances in North Carolina, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Mississippi and in various Connecticut cities as well as accompanying numerous recitals and concerts for various vocal artists including Osceola Davis, Oziel Garza-Ornelas and Patrice Munsel. As a conductor, Field has worked with the University of Connecticut Chorale, University of Memphis Opera Theatre, Connecticut Opera Alliance and the Memphis Symphony.  Stephen is the founding Artistic Director of Carolina Vocal Arts Ensemble as well as the Artistic Director of the newly formed, Port City Orchestra.   In 2007, while on a tour of Ukraine he stepped in at the last moment for an ailing colleague to conduct the Brahms Requiem for a national television and radio broadcast.  Field is the founding director of Port City Orchestra and teaches piano privately in Wilmington, North Carolina while continuing to perform.

Domonique Launey has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Jamaica as soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. As featured soloist, Launey has collaborated with orchestras including the Wilmington (North Carolina), Houston Chamber, San Antonio, Oklahoma, Shreveport, Tulare County (California), L’Orchestre de Chapelle Minimes (Belgium), and the Tallis Chamber of Wilmington, NC performing concerti of Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, and W.A .Mozart. She has performed solo and multiple harpsichord concerti of J.S.Bach, C.P.E. Bach as well as chamber works of Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens, Elgar. In 2010, she was invited to perform the E Minor Concerto of Chopin with the Tulare County Symphony in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. In October 2011, Launey performed Liszt’s Concerto in E Flat with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra in honor of the composer’s 200th birthday. In the fall of 2014, she will collaborate again with the orchestra in a performance of Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Piano Concerto in D Minor. Awards include first place in the Wideman International Piano Concerto Competition, winner of the University of Texas Concerto Competition; she has also performed in Fort Worth, Texas in the Van Cliburn Competition. Performance degrees include work at the University of Texas in Austin. During postgraduate work as a Rotary International Scholar, she studied with Nadine Deletaille in Brussels, Belgium, where she performed as soloist extensively for a year throughout Europe. She returned to Brussels where she was presented with the Gold Medallion for her solo performance at L’Academie de Musique. Launey serves as pianist for other musicians and ensembles, and is involved with the Cape Fear Music Teachers Association.

$6 general public, free to students with valid UNCW ID.
Tickets are available in advance through the UNCW Box Office (located in Kenan Auditorium) and one hour prior to performance at the Cultural Arts Building Box Office.

Advance tickets may be purchased online or by calling the box office at 910-962-3500 (12 - 6 p.m. M-F) 
Any remaining tickets will be available one hour prior to performance at the Cultural Arts Building Box Office.

UNCW students may obtain tickets in advance by going to the UNCW Box Office (located in Kenan Auditorium) Monday-Friday 12 - 6 p.m. If you wish to pick up tickets in advance on the day of the event, please go to the box office no later than 5 p.m.
 

Don't forget! The box office closes 15 minutes after the start of a Department of Music event.

DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC CONCERT GUIDELINES FOR UNCW STUDENTS

Arrive on time

•   Arrive at the concert venue at least 10 minutes before the posted concert time. If you need to get a ticket at the box office, have your UNCW student ID ready and arrive at least another 5 sooner.

    •   The box office will only be open for ticket sales and distribution to students up until 15 minutes after the performance begins. 

     •   Students arriving 5 minutes after the start time of the event will not be admitted free with their UNCW ID card, and must purchase tickets in order to be admitted. If the box office has closed, students will not be admitted into the venue.


Concert attendance and program stamping

Programs for students registered in Department of Music classes are stamped by the ushers at the end of the performance. 

   •   If you leave early, your program will not be stamped.

   •   If ushers should run out of programs, ask them to stamp your ticket stub at the end of the concert. Let your teacher know what happened.
