About the composers:
Andrew York is a versatile performer and composer of international stature, whose compositions blend the styles of ancient eras with modern musical directions, creating music that is at once vital, multi-leveled and accessible. York has received several Grammy Awards: as a member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet; his compositions have been featured on Grammy-winning recordings by Jason Vieaux and Sharon Isbin; in 2006, York recorded and performed with the Atlanta Symphony for Osvaldo Golijov’s opera Ainadamar, which received two Grammys. York crosses stylistic boundaries with an unusual authority – besides his classical contribution, he also has an extensive background as a jazz guitarist. His recordings include Rhino Records' Legends of Guitar; Centerpeace, featuring collaborations with guitarist Andy Summers, and pianists Mitsuko Kado and Allaudin Mathieu; Yamour, which garnered the number one spot in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s “Essential Recordings of 2012.” York performed in the live documentary Primal Twang, along with Eric Johnson, Albert Lee, Doc Watson, and Mason Williams. The Los Angeles-based Vaughn Dance Company choreographed an entire show of modern dance to York's compositions.
David Kechley, composer, formerly of UNCW, is professor of music, emeritus, at Williams College, and has produced works in all genres. drawing from twentieth century concert music, concert composers from both the more distant past and present, and many forms of vernacular, popular, and ethnic music. Although these influences are generally integrated into a consistent style, the resulting musical narratives often create sharp contrasts between lyricism, virtuosity, and dramatic gesture. Kechley’s works have been commissioned and performed throughout the United States and abroad by numerous orchestras and ensembles including Boston Pops, Cleveland Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Kronos String Quartet, Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, and Zagreb Saxophone Quartet. He has has been recognized by – among others – the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, North Carolina Arts Council, the Barlow Foundation, and has won countless awards for composition and residencies at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center, among others.

Tickets
$6 general public, free to students with valid UNCW ID.
Tickets are available in advance through the UNCW Box Office (located in Kenan Auditorium) and one hour prior to performance at the Kenan Auditorium Box Office.
Advance tickets may be purchased online or by calling the box office at 910-962-3500 (M-F) Any remaining tickets will be available one hour prior to performance at the Cultural Arts Box Office.
UNCW students may obtain tickets in advance by going to the UNCW Box Office (located in Kenan Auditorium) Monday-Friday 12 - 6 p.m.
Don't forget! The box office closes 15 minutes after the start of a Department of Music event.

DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC CONCERT GUIDELINES FOR UNCW STUDENTS
Arrive on time
• Arrive at the concert venue at least 10 minutes before the posted concert time. If you need to get a ticket at the box office, have your UNCW student ID ready and arrive at least another 5 sooner.
• The box office will only be open for ticket sales and distribution to students up until 15 minutes after the performance begins.
• Students arriving 5 minutes after the start time of the event will not be admitted free with their UNCW ID card, and must purchase tickets in order to be admitted. If the box office has closed, students will not be admitted into the venue.
Concert attendance and program stamping
Programs for students registered in Department of Music classes are stamped by the ushers at the end of the performance.
• If you leave before the concert ends, your program will not be stamped.
• If ushers should run out of programs, ask them to stamp your ticket stub at the end of the concert. Let your teacher know what happened.
Use of electronic devices during performances
• use of computers, tablets, phones is not allowed during performances. Anyone using an electronic device will be asked to put it away. Noncompliance may result in being asked to leave the event.
