This acclaimed British-American touring company’s production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest overflows with humor, elegance and romantic comedy. Since its first performance on Valentine’s Day in 1895, Wilde’s masterpiece has become a respected piece of literature delighting audiences everywhere.
This deliciously witty comedy details the escapades of Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, two members of the fashionable British upper crust. In an attempt to escape their dull country lives, they invent wild tales about the imaginary Ernest and Bunbury. Their deceptions eventually cross paths, resulting in a series of hilarious discoveries that threaten to spoil their romantic pursuits. Full of larger than life characters and memorable satirical humor, Aquila's creative staging and sparkling flare for language make this production one not to be missed.
Sponsored by UNCW Presents, South Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
