About the Artists
The New Muse Piano Duo (Paola Savvidou and Jonathan Kuuskoski) specializes in music of the 20th and 21st centuries. The duo is based at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, where Savvidou serves as assistant professor of piano pedagogy and Jonathan Kuuskoski serves as the director of entrepreneurship and community programs and is an assistant teaching professor of music. The duo’s mission is to expand the repertoire available for four hands by performing newly composed works across the United States. The duo is a sub-group of New Music Everywhere (NEW MUSE), an ensemble formed in August 2010 in Madison, WI, which has received support from the College Music Society Yamaha In-Residence Fellowship, the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission, and the UW-Madison New Arts Venture Challenge. NEW MUSE is a professional music ensemble specializing in the performance of new works in unconventional venues.
During the 2013-2014 academic year the New Muse Piano Duo will take on tour a program that includes new works from a call-for-scores that generated more than 90 submissions from across North American and Europe. The UNCW program will consist of new works from the call-for-scores and some standard repertoire.
