Program
UNCW Chamber Choir and Concert Choir perform Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, Op. 9 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Conducted by Aaron Peisner, the concert features chamber orchestra, including organist Richard Rhoads, and soloists Tanya Hanano, mezzo soprano, and Quentin Lovette, baritone. The Requiem is full of warmth and light, with poignant harmonies inviting the listener to meditate on the idea of eternal rest. One of the great masterworks of twentieth-century choral music, the Requiem melds the ancient melodic language of Gregorian chant with the lush harmony of
French romantic and impressionistic music of the early twentieth century.
About the conductor
Aaron Peisner joined the UNCW faculty as the visiting director of choral activities in Fall 2019. Prior to arriving in Wilmington, he served as interim director of choirs at Goucher College in Towson, MD. He has prepared choirs for performances with orchestras including the Baltimore and National Symphony Orchestras under the direction of conductors including Marin Alsop, Gianandrea Noseda, Donald Runnicles, and Jeannette Sorrell. A baritone, Peisner has sung professionally with the choir at the Basilica of the National Shrine in Washington, DC, hexaCollective in Baltimore, and Yale Schola Cantorum. Peisner holds degrees from the University of Maryland, Yale University, and Wesleyan University.
