Founded in 2002, Da Howlies Hawaiian Band and been bringing the sounds of the islands to the Carolina Coast for the past 15 years. Combining classic “Hapa Haole” swing tunes with a bluegrass and country flavor, the band has created a unique niche for themselves in the local music scene. Featuring ukulele player Zach Hanner and guitarist John McIntyre from the original lineup, the band has joined forces with local rockabilly legends The Phantom Playboys and added Jones Smith on upright bass, Hank Blanton on steel guitar and occasionally drummer Jimmy Kaylis. You may even see a lineup featuring local blues harmonica standout Greg McLohan (Polar Bear Blues Band) Songs vary from classic Hawaiian ("Little Grass Shack,” “Hawaiian War Chant,” “Tiny Bubbles” and more) to country (“Folsom Prison Blues,” “King of the Road,” “Move It On Over” and loads of others) to pop (“Here Comes Your Man,” “Creep,” “Killing Moon” and others) Da Howlies cranks out their special brand of “Southern-Fried Hawaiian Music” Aloha!
