A Family and Alumni Weekend Event

The Department of Music presents a recital by Mary Gheen, flute.

A reception with the UNCW Alumni Office will be held in the lobby of the Cultural Arts Building.

$15 alumni, parents, faculty, staff

Tickets are available in advance through the UNCW Box Office (located in Kenan Auditorium) and one hour prior to performance at the Cultural Arts Building Box Office.
Advance tickets may be purchased online or by calling the box office at 910-962-3500 Monday-Friday 12 - 6 p.m. 
Any remaining tickets will be available one hour prior to performance at the Cultural Arts Building Box Office.

UNCW students may obtain tickets in advance by going to the UNCW Box Office (located in Kenan Auditorium) Monday-Friday 12 - 6 p.m. If you wish to pick up tickets in advance on the day of the event, please go to the box office no later than 5 p.m.

About the artist
Mary Gheen is an active flutist, teacher and piano techncian in Wilmington, NC. In 2016, she completed her military training to serve as a flutist for the NC 440th Army National Guard Band. She is an instructor of music at Cape Fear Community College in addition to maintaining a piano tuning business. She is a member of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, the Wilmington Symphonic Winds, and performs locally with groups including UNCW’s Early Music Consort and Opera Wilmington.
       Gheen is also affiliated with the flute quartet Stranded Silver. The ensemble has been invited to perform for a number of national and regional conventions which include the New Music Gathering at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland (2016) and the National Flute Association Annual Convention in San Diego, CA (2016). Stranded Silver was chosen as semi-finalists for the SAVVY Musician in Action Chamber Music Competition (2015) and finalists in the American Prize Chamber Music Performance professional division (2016).
       Gheen studied flute with Mary Jo White at UNCW, where she received her Bachelor of Music in flute performance (2009) and was the recipient of the William F. Adcock award for excellence. Gheen’s Master of Music is from East Carolina University (2014), also in flute performance. At ECU, she served as assistant piano technician and teaching assistant for the flute studio, was the 2012 Raleigh Area Flute Association Competition Division 7 winner, and a finalist in the East Carolina University Concerto Competition. In conjunction with her degrees, Gheen studied piano technology, and in 2011 earned her certification as a registered piano technician through the Piano Technician’s Guild.
       Gheen is joined by Gheen's UNCW flute instruction Mary Jo White, UNCW alumnus Byron Marshall on piano, and Matt Howard on tuba,

DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC CONCERT GUIDELINES FOR UNCW STUDENTS
Arrive on time
•   Arrive at the concert venue at least 10 minutes before the posted concert time. If you need to get a ticket at the box office, have your UNCW student ID ready and arrive at least another 5 sooner.

Concert attendance and program stamping
Programs for students registered in Department of Music classes are stamped by the ushers at the end of the performance. 
   •   If you leave early, your program will not be stamped.
   •   If ushers should run out of programs, ask them to stamp your ticket stub at the end of the concert. Let your teacher know what happened.
