Tickets to the lecture are included with the recital ticket. When purchasing, please indicate if you will be attending the lecture.
Any remaining tickets to the recital and lecture will be on sale in the Cultural Arts Building box office that evening, prior to the lecture.

Artist biography
Lawrence Quinnett is an active concert pianist who has performed recitals, conducted master classes, and adjudicated competitions in the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Quinnett has several competition successes to his credit, including first prize in the 2013 Doctoral Concerto Competition at Florida State University, the 2011 FSU Chapman Competition, the 2008 South Carolina Music Teachers’ Association Young Artist Piano Competition, and the 2006 Southeastern College Piano Competition. He has been featured as a performing pianist and harpsichordist for Colour of Music Festival events in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Texas. He has performed Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto with the National Repertory Orchestra and the Florida State University Symphony Orchestra. Other performances include recitals at the Central Florida Music Teachers’ Association, the Montserrat Music Festival in the West Indies, the Music at Mains Series in Jacksonville, the Trinity Artists Series in New Orleans, and the Steinway Piano Galleries of Charlotte and Greensboro, NC. He has played all-Bach recitals at Bach festivals in Louisiana and Wisconsin, and has performed a majority of the Beethoven solo piano sonatas. A supporter of new music, Quinnett has performed in the 2013 New Music Festival and 2012 John Cage Festival at FSU, and participated as both performer and lecturer at the 2013 Ligeti Symposium and Festival, for which he received a unique recognition of excellence.
            Quinnett is an assistant professor of piano and music theory at Livingstone College. With a published treatise on the études of Gyorgi Ligeti, Quinnett has continued to research music theory and piano performance. He has given lectures on ornamentation and student improvisation, various works of Beethoven, and the etudes of Ligeti for the North Carolina Music Teacher’s Association, the Tallahassee Music Teachers Association, and more. Quinnett’s teachers include Carolyn Cloud-Absher, Jane Gardiner, Jon Maisonpierre, and Douglas Weeks. He was selected for master classes and coaching sessions with Jeremy Denk, Karen Shaw, Anton Kuerti, Simone Dinnerstein, Elizabeth Pridinoff, Miles Hoffman, the Cavani String Quartet, Frederick Moyer, and Shai Wosner, among others. He holds a Doctor of Music from Florida State University, where he studied with Read Gainsford.

DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC CONCERT GUIDELINES FOR UNCW STUDENTS

Arrive on time

•   Arrive at the concert venue at least 10 minutes before the posted concert time. If you need to get a ticket at the box office, have your UNCW student ID ready and arrive at least another 5 sooner.

    •   The box office will only be open for ticket sales and distribution to students up until 15 minutes after the performance begins. 

    •   Students arriving 5 minutes after the start time of the event will not be admitted free with their UNCW ID card, and must purchase tickets in order to be admitted. If the box office has closed, students will not be admitted into the venue.


Concert attendance and program stamping

Programs for students registered in Department of Music classes are stamped by the ushers at the end of the performance. 

   •   If you leave before the concert ends, your program will not be stamped.

   •   If ushers should run out of programs, ask them to stamp your ticket stub at the end of the concert. Let your teacher know what happened. 

 

Use of electronic devices during performances

   •   use of computers, tablets, phones is not allowed during performances. Anyone using an electronic device will be asked to put it away. Noncompliance may result in being asked to leave the event.
