About the Artists
Barry David Salwen is an international concert pianist, giving performances and master classes in the U.S., Europe, Israel and Asia. He gave two weeks of master classes at the Shanghai Conservatory in China, among many other places. As the recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Scholars Grant, he gave a semester’s seminar at the Music Conservatory in Freiburg, Germany, one of the leading music institutions in the country. His master classes at UNCW have been attended by students from across eastern North Carolina. Among Salwen’s nine CDs is the first recording of the complete solo piano music of the American master Roger Sessions; he is the first artist to record all of these works. Salwen is a member of the Department of Music faculty, where he teaches piano, music history, and is coordinator of piano studies

Awards include first place in the Wideman International Piano Concerto Competition, winner of the University of Texas Concerto Competition; she also performed in Fort Worth, Texas in the Van Cliburn Competition. Performance degrees include work at the University of Texas in Austin. During postgraduate work as a Rotary International Scholar, she performed as soloist for a year throughout Europe.
